Everyone Loves Mushroom

It is a universal truth that people love things that are tinier than they should be. Miniature horses. Bonsai trees. Backyard-sized scale models of cities.

And of course, Mushroom. Since she looks more like a pitbull than Badger, and people are sometimes wary of him, we thought Mushroom would face even more discrimination. We were wrong. Everyone loves Mushroom. We get comments like, "Awww, she looks like a tiny pitbull." (Yes, she does.) "Is she a pitbull/chihuahua mix?" (We don't know. Maybe?) "Is she fully grown?" (Yes, she is.)

Also, (and I may be biased here) she has an adorable little face. Just look at these pictures from our last play group. Who wouldn't want to say hi to her?

"Hi there! I'm Mushroom"

"Is that a treat I smell?"

"I'm not usually into politics, but your candidate has some great ideas"

On the other hand, I think people shy away from Badger not because he looks "pitbull-y" but because he looks like a mouth on legs. Way. Too. Intense.

"YOU ARE MY NEW BEST FRIEND!!"

"WHY DIDN'T YOU RESPOND TO MY 11 TEXTS?!"

".... THEN I ROUNDHOUSE-KICKED THE ALIEN IN THE FACE BECAUSE I'M AWESOME!!"

Do you have a dog like Mushroom that everyone loves? Or do you have a dog like Badger that people tend to avoid?

  1. I am sure Mushroom's name has a lot to do with people's tendency to want to snuggle him - I mean, who couldn't love a dog named Mushroom?!

As far as Badger is concerned, your captions for him cracked me up! He has the intense eyes of a pug - it is adorable!

Personally, I want to snuggle them both!

    1. Badger's breed mix is quite a mystery. We have considered that he might be part pug.

  2. My dogs are confusing. Strangers absolutely LOVE Tess but she doesn't want anything to do with them. Schultz is really interested in strangers, but they are usually leery of him. When it comes to family and friends, Tess flips out with excitement, only to be slightly ignored by everyone who is trying to convince Schultz that they are not evil intruders and just want to pet/snuggle him. They are all about what they aren't getting I guess.

  3. Ha! Love "...THEN I ROUNDHOUSE KICKED THE ALIEN IN THE FACE BECAUSE I'M AWESOME!" With Badger all you see is crazy eyes and teeth, definitely intense! Mushroom has a sweet expression, and her eyes look a little crossed in the pics, which just adds to her cuteness.

People usually want to pet Maggie and Duke, and seem to get offended when Maggie will stay just out of reach. Duke tends to sit and shake in new situations, so they feel bad for him and will leave him alone. They're both shy, but I think Maggie comes across as a snob!
